Fun Fridays for Kids

We have seen so many things change during 2020. Perhaps for those of us with kids, and grandkids, the biggest thing has been the way that Covid-19 has affected the children in our lives.

With the start of the school year, the changes have been magnified. School yards and playgrounds that are normally filled with laughter and cheer are empty. Classrooms have become something you log into. And everyone continues to wonder how much longer, which of course remains unanswered.

So What Are We Going To Do About It?

We know that your kids are longing for a chance to spend time with friends. So here's that chance.

Each Friday, for the foreseeable future, we will be hosting Fun Friday outings. These outings are meant to be no/ low cost events where the children of our church can get together to play and enjoy each other's company. Today (9-4-2020) we had our first outing as a small group met for a picnic and hiked some of the forest trails at the Piedmont Environmental Center.

Next Friday (9-11-2020) we are planning to meet at the church at noon, bringing bagged lunches, and traveling to a local park (the playgrounds are being opened after months of being closed).

How does it work?

Families are invited to join us each week. This is not a drop-off service. We will do things the way many homeschool groups do outings. Parents come and help to supervise and participate (and also get a little adult talk time with other parents). Our target group is elementary aged students, but if you have siblings who are older or younger you are welcome to bring them on most outings (if we have one with age limitations we will let you know in advance).

We currently have a Facebook group where we are posting plans and communicating about upcoming events. If you are not part of this group and would like to be added, please contact me at kidzonepastor@firstchristianhp.org.

You are welcome to invite others to join us (might be a great way to get friends, family, & neighbors who are not involved with a church plugged in to a non-threatening activity). Please respond weekly (preferably through the Facebook group) to let us know the total number of people attending. Some weeks we may take a van, some weeks we may meet or drive separately.

I am excited about being able to get our kids together to fellowship and have some much needed socialization time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I look forward to having you join us for an outing soon!
