Let me start by saying how much I love hockey. I know, I know. I live in NC, ice is something we put in our sweet tea not something that we skate on. When we think contact sports we think football, boxing, WWE.
In college I wasn't big enough (or good enough) to play football. But when ASU was building their inaugural ice hockey team they needed bodies, and I wanted to tell my kids one day, "Daddy played something in college." So my friends from up north strapped me to some skates, took me to the rink and taught me the game. From then on I was hooked!

So when our local FPHL (minor league) team was hosting a Sunday afternoon game, it was the perfect chance to invite our congregation to take in a game. Our group, 14 strong, had a blast rooting on the Thunderbirds, clowning around with each other, ringing cow bells, stealing the kids hats and cheering when the PA announcer called out our group.
I loved at the end of the game how several of the players gathered on the ice with the team chaplain and prayed together. We pointed it out to the kids so they could see this great example of how you can be 'manly', 'sporty' and still love Jesus!
We'll be heading to several other sporting events throughout the year including the High Point Rockers Baseball Games and the Carolina Cobras arena league football. We hope that even more of you will be able to join us for these events!
